Mission

My mission for this business is to pass on the knowledge and enjoyment I have obtained in my own personal training, and to bring a new and exciting style of martial arts to Lawrence County.

I want to break away from the outdated, watered down, traditional martial arts systems and bring something new to the table.

...and hopefully put out some talented fighters by the time it's all said and done.

~ Joseph Wirth - Instructor and Owner

  2. Teach each individual proper training and fighting techniques in order to develop a respected fighter.
  3. Offer another opportunity for youth in the community to get involved in sports and stay active.
  4. Have fun with martial arts!

Joseph Wirth - Instructor

Biography

Joey began martial arts traiing at the age of 16. He has extensive training in Jui-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Tae Kwon Do. In Tae Kwon Do he was the Illinois state champion multiple times, winning the triple crown (sparring, form, and weapons) two years in a row. Although his main focus lies with Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing, he has also trained in Judo, Aikido, Tai Ji, American Kickboxing, Hapkido, and Boxing. Some of his training partners include Hooknshoot middleweight world champion and Jiu-Jitsu standout Heath Pedigo as well as UFC veteran Aaron Riley.

Joey's Theories on Teaching:

"My style of teaching is very technical and open-minded. Every technique taught to the class is explained in great detail. We'll go through every concept from the practicality of a technique, to the weaknesses of it, and even as far as the biological physics of the technique. In other words, I won't just teach you how with the application of a technique, I'll explain to you what the technique is doing physically to the opponent so it can be more easily understood.

Another aspect we get into is the concept of variation. A lot of styles just teach technique. I like to teach every possible variation to a technique, making it a more accessable option as opposed to being limited simply to the one technique. Having trained in various styles and under various instructors, it's easy for me to see the unlimited possibilities for variation on a technique, so I always try my best to convey that to the students."
